Stagemakers at the J presents 'Winnie the Pooh'

The final Jewish Community Center presentation of the childhood favorite, "Winnie the Pooh," will be given 2 p.m. Jan. 20.

The musical is performed by The Stagemakers at the J, which is comprised of students in public and private schools and who participate in the performing arts classes at the JCC.

The five-week class culminates in a show production.

"Winnie the Pooh" was chosen by Director and Choreographer Syd Stauffer because of its appeal to the younger students.

Since the start of Stagemakers at the J, this cast of 14 girls is the youngest.

"The cast has so much enthusiasm and spirit and it is fun to work with them," Stauffer said.

Musical director is Fawn Albert and Damon Gelb is the set designer.

Stage manager is Sara Keller, a 2004 graduate of Parkland High School.

Stauffer believes that the "The production is complex enough to challenge the cast," Stauffer said. "[This] would be a great first show for some children to see."

Winnie the Pooh is played by Deborah Katz, a student at Western Salisbury Elementary School, who has been in six previous performances of the Stagemakers.

Christopher Robin is played by Julia Sams, an eighth grader at Orefield Middle School.

The part of the voice and the Fox is played by Maia Gould, an eighth-grader at Springhouse Middle School.

This is the fifth production she has taken part in for Stagemakers.

Another cast member who attends Springhouse is Hannah Lovenwirth, who portrays the Deer.

Eeyore is played by Julia Boonswang, a student at the Jewish Day School.

Rabbit is played by Michaela Boyer, a student at Parkland High School.

Parkland High School cast members are Courtney Gelb, who plays Kanga, and Natalie Trachtman, who is the Dance Captain and Butterfly.

Other Parkland students include Claudia Hohenshilt as Roo, Jada Pinsley portraying Skunk and Makenna Zenie as Owl.

Students from Lower Macungie include Stefania as Piglet and Pandora Schoen as Squirrel.

The final performance will be presented 2 p.m. Jan. 20.
