Roy R. Smith Jr., 71, of North Catasauqua, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, in the Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Center, Bethlehem. He was the husband of Linda (Carl) Smith for 48 years.

Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Roy R. Sr. and Marion (Jones) Smith.

He was in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era.

He was a computer aided drafting consultant for many years for Milliken Valve, Bethlehem, until he retired. Previously, he was a manager for Western Union for 24 years.

He was a member of Zion's United Church of Christ, Kreidersville.

He was a drummer in the U.S. Air Force Band and with "The Shadows" and "Autumn", with which he played for 22 years. He was a member of the Catasauqua American Legion 215.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Kevin M. of Lehighton; three daughters, Lisa and her husband Tom Schaeffer of Allentown, Treena and her husband John Haggerty of Lehigh Township and Amy and her husband Mike George of Allentown; seven grandchildren, Amanda L., Kevin R., Tyler R. and Shayla A. Smith, Michael P. and Lauren E. Haggerty and Tommy J. Schaeffer Jr; a great- grandson, Jovan X. Vega; three sisters, Sandra Werner, Judith Lewis and Kathleen Gery; and a brother, James W. Smith.

He was predeceased by a sister, Jean Clair; and two brothers, John and Richard.
