This was the day they had all worked toward–the day they would be appointed to their positions on the Upper Macungie Township Police Force. On Dec. 28, 2012, their dreams came true.
District Judge Michael Faulkner performed the official swearing while Pastor Allen Kline, chaplain of State Police Troop M, gave the invocation and benediction.
Family and friends attended, showing their support and helping with the official "pinning" of the officers.
Chief Edgardo Colon conducted the event with supervisors in attendance.
Due to shift differences, two ceremonies took place. Promotions were made at the 4 p.m. session.
Promoted to sergeant were: William Easparro, Joseph J. Geczi, Peter Nickischer, Daniel P. Fagan, Stephen J. Marshall, Jr. and Cory S. Reader.
Promoted to detective were: Adam X. Miller, Darren W. Simmers and Justin M. Wheeler.
Other members of the department include: Lt. Michael Sitoski, patrol division commander; Lt. Joseph B. Wilson, crime and administration division commander; Keri Diehl, office manager; and Deborah M. Schnellman, clerical assistant.
Upper Macungie Township Officer William Rohrbach told The Press he will miss some parts of serving with the Berks-Regional force but is anxious to start with the new force.
Diehl said she is excited about the new undertaking.
Officer Adam Wood-ruff's father said his son is glad he is based in Lehigh County because he is a member of that county's Municipal Emergency Response Team.
Supervisors' Chairman Ed Earley said the Upper Macungie contingent in the police force is slightly less than the regional force but they only have half the coverage area, 24.5 square miles, for which they were previously responsible.
