'Amazing Grace' celebrates 90 years
Grace Irene Hunsicker Snyder celebrated her 90th birthday with more than 60 friends and relatives at Country Meadows, Allentown.
Grace, who lived and farmed with her parents and later with her husband, Daniel Nathan Snyder, in the New Tripoli area most of her life, was born on July 28.
She knew there was going to be a party for her, but that is all she knew. The remainder was a surprise.
Grace, who in her teen years, would occasionally write poetry, was delighted when the short program opened with the singing of three of her favorite hymns, including "He Touched Me.
Grace explained how, one evening, that song touched her.
She had come to the end of her choices in dealing with depression and began singing the song.
The following day, she placed her trust in Jesus as her Lord and Savior.
Grace has five children, 10 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. She is also the great-great-grandmother of 1-year-old Reid Michael Schaffer.
Winter
Winter is a
beautiful season
But I have a
very good reason
To despise it in a
number of ways
For it often prolongs and lengthens my days
Whenever I see the snow coming down
There comes to my face a very dark frown
It spells seclusion for my family and me
We're two miles from the big highway,
don't you see?
Next we hear the snow plow going past
This always gives us hope at last
That from privacy
we can refrain
Until the next snow will come down again
