LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Cook, George want to end on high note

Nick Cook and Kyle George have tried to be on the same page throughout the entire football season. But as the 2012 season continued to grind its way unfavorably for Northampton, the quarterback and wide receiver duo also deteriorated stat wise.

The two K-Kids hope things can pick back up this Thanksgiving when they take on rival Catasauqua in the final game of both team's regular season.

One thing for sure on the minds of both players is that they have the same mindset about this week's game.

"It's a very important game for us to win," said the junior quarterback Cook. "We want to be a team that knocked off the Mountain Valley Conference champion [Stroudsburg] and the Colonial League champion [Catasauqua]. We didn't have the type of year we wanted as a team, but this game could make up for a lot of things."

Northampton (2-8) has lost six straight games entering this turkey day tilt and Cook and company haven't been able to fire on all cylinders offensively since their last win--a 35-6 victory over Bethlehem Catholic on September 21.

Cook has thrown for 2,007 yards and 15 touchdowns this year with George being the major beneficiary, hauling in nine touchdowns for 908 yards off 41 receptions.

With Cook only being a junior, George clearly wants to make the most of his final opportunity at beating Catty on their home turf.

"It could be the last time I put on the pads," George said. "We look at this game as one of trying to make a statement. We were in a lot of games this year until things went wrong and we lost. We expect to be there until the end against Catty and we want to win."

George acknowledged mixed feelings about the Rough Riders as they prepared for the District 11 2A championship last weekend.

On one hand, he wanted them to win to so they could have the opportunity to knock off an undefeated team, but on the other hand, he wanted them to lose to assure that a full strength Catty side was going to play on Thanksgiving.

Despite Catasauqua (11-1) losing to Pen Argyl over the weekend, George and company certainly know what they are going to be playing against this weekend now.

"We wanted to have the chance to beat them straight up," he said. "They have a lot of skill players, but they don't matchup with our size. I hope that's an area we can take advantage of."

And Cook hopes he can have one final day with his partner in crime to throw some TD's on the board.

"We had some injuries with our wideouts that really made people double cover Kyle a lot," said Cook. "It's been tough trying to get him the ball, but I think we can get it done. We look at Catty as just another team. Any team can go out and win this game."
