The Coplay Recreation and Welfare Association recently put the finishing touches on the annual Thanksgiving meal provided to food bank clients and its annual community Christmas tree lighting and concert. Over the next several days, those who use the association's food bank will be provided turkeys or a chicken to roast for Thanksgiving. The food distribution includes yams, cranberry sauce, stuffing and other trimmings which is distributed in addition to the regular monthly allotment.

The client list has grown from about 20 families to more than 30. The food bank is located in the basement of the municipal building at Fourth and Center streets.

At the meeting, the association reported its annual holiday tree lighting and concert will be held Wednesday, Dec.5, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Santa will arrive during the program via the borough fire engine, handing treats to the youths present.

The Whitehall High School Chorale will also present a holiday concert that is open to the public. Doughnuts and coffee will be available for everyone attending.

The association will review its bylaws with an eye toward updating. No material changes are expected to be made to the operations of the organization.

The annual Halloween parade the association holds yearly was said to be a success. An emphasis on having sponsors for the parade's four divisions lessens the costs of holding the parade. Coplay Saengerbund was credited with again holding a post-parade event at its pavilion with hot dogs, chips and refreshments.
