To the Editor:
My name is David Boyko and I am the emergency management coordinator for the Borough of Macungie.
First, it is necessary to thank all the emergency responders fire, police, ambulance and borough crew many who altered their schedules to serve their community during the recent natural disaster. This also includes their spouses and families who made sacrifices.
Secondly, I want to clarify the article that was published in the newspaper concerning trick or treat. It was council president Jean Nagle that went outside of the chain of command and caused an announcement to be made that trick or treat would be held.
Jean acted on her own without council's or emergency management's input and authorized the event.
When residents voiced their concern and outrage over such a poor decision, she failed to accept responsibility for her actions and has tried to shift the blame.
What rational person would send their children out into a community when both the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the borough were operating under a state of emergency a community that was without power that was in complete darkness and without any way to call the police or fire departments?
It certainly is not I.
