New auditors for Lowhill

Lowhill Township Solicitor Charles Waters announced at the supervisors' Nov. 1 meeting two new auditors, Carol Dorsch and Stacey Schappell, were sworn in.

He introduced the two women.

Both have solid accounting and financial backgrounds, he said.

The positions remained unfilled when the previous auditors either resigned or did not seek re-election. Dorsch and Schappell volunteered to fill the vacancies.

"Did you tell them the pay isn't very good?" asked Board Chairman Eugene Weiner, bringing forth laughter.

In other matters, Emergency Management Coordinator Frank Barthol-omew reported there was no structural damage in the township from Hurricane Sandy.

Only wires and trees, he said. Bartholomew also reported he has started on the new management plan, which has to be done within the next two years.

Secretary Jill Seymour said the township received an email from the Criminal Unit of the State Police, Fogelsville.

State police say there were eight burglaries in Northwestern Lehigh County since Sept. 12.

Jewelry and electronics were the main items stolen, and forced entries were made through rear windows or doors during the daytime. Residents were asked to be aware of what is going on around their neighbors' properties and to report anything suspicious.

In other business: Grace Industries was selected as the low bid for the Narris Road repairs, at $75,925.

Ryan Christman, representing Keystone Consulting, said work can begin right away now that KOA campground is closed for the season.

The board approved the purchase of a 2000 GMC dump truck from Kressley's Garage for $38,000.

Junkyard licenses were renewed for Kressley's Garage and for Leah Landis, both for one year.

Weiner, who was absent from last month's meeting, left after voting on the bids.

Vice Chairman Richard Hughes, who chaired this month's meeting, explained Weiner is having some medical issues. He said Weiner was, however, been helping with the 2013 budget process.
