Kids fall to Whitehall, drop sixth straight

It's been a long time since Northampton's football team experienced that winning feeling.

The hopes of a prosperous 2012 season appeared to be a reality after their week one upset over Stroudsburg, but that seems like an eternity ago for the Konrete Kids.

Northampton lost its sixth straight contest last Saturday night when they fell to Whitehall 45-3.

The Kids (2-8) haven't tasted victory since their September 21 victory over Bethlehem Catholic and have struggled to get anything going on offense once teams have figured out ways to shutdown the once prolific passing game of quarterback Nike Cook and wide receiver Kyle George.

Cook was 8-of-16 for 56 yards against Whitehall but was under constant pressure all night, as he was sacked five times in a contest that Northampton found themselves overmatched in.

"Our inexperience has really shown as of late," said Northampton first-year head coach Jeff Brosky. "The biggest thing for our offense is to keep learning and getting experience. Teams have figured us out offensively and even though we've made adjustments, we just haven't been able to produce the type of results we've liked to see."

The three points scored is the second lowest output for Northampton this season, next to their 28-0 defeat at the hands of Parkland in week three.

Brosky hopes he can find a contingency game for this weekend against either Saucon Valley or Philadelphia's Cardinal O'Hara to keep things interesting as the team prepares for an undefeated Catasauqua (10-0) team on Thanksgiving morning.

"We'd like to have another game just to give our players more experience heading into next season," Brosky said. "It gives us an opportunity to play some younger kids and learn more about the team going forward. Plus, it would keep things fresh for the team having another opponent to prepare for, rather than practice for two weeks in preparation for Catty."

With that said, Brosky knows he'll have to fine tune some of Northampton's issues in the weight room this off-season by establishing a more committed weight lifting program, as well as bringing more players into the program and keeping current players in the Northampton mold.

"We need to build more four year players in this program," he said. "This year we took good steps by getting more players to come out, but we can't have players come out for two years and then take a year off. We need to build that consistency, along with consistency in the weight room. It'll come with time, but those are obvious factors that contribute to the product on the field."

And the product Brosky wants to put on the field in the future continues with what the Kids can do in these final three weeks of the regular season.

"I look at the Catasauqua game as carrying momentum into next season," he said. "With the way this year has gone for us, a win on Thanksgiving would be huge, especially since we haven't won since September. That would be big for our younger guys."
