Hurricane Sandy claims second Parkland life

Hurricane Sandy claimed another life in the Parkland area, according to Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim.

Luther Fritzinger, 93, of 1063 Mosser Road, in the Autumn Park complex, Upper Macungie Township, was found dead in his garage on Nov. 1, Grim said.

The coroner ruled Fritzinger died of hypo-thermia following prolonged exposure to the cold following power outages associated with Hurricane Sandy.

Lehigh County First Deputy Coroner Eric D. Minnich pronounced Fritzinger dead 1:09 p.m. Nov. 1.

Grim said an autopsy was performed Nov. 2 and Fritzinger's death was ruled an accident.

Theresa Schlitzer, 86, of 2425 Route 309, Orefield, South Whitehall, was found unresponsive in her yard after prolonged exposure to the extreme weather from Hurricane Sandy after 10:30 p.m. Oct. 29.

Her death on Oct. 30 was also attributed to hypothermia.
