In the 187rd District, incumbent Gary Day, a Republican, was challenged by Joseph Haas, a Democrat, for the two-year term as state representative.

Day, who had no primary opposition, was seeking a third term, while Haas, who defeated William Bispels in the primary, was seeking his first term.

Day easily won re-election.

Unofficial results show Day garnered 63 percent of the vote to Haas' 37 percent.

Day rolled to a nearly 2-1 margin in Lehigh County, his home.

Berks County, home to Haas, gave Day a 12 percdent margin of victory.

Day was first elected in 2008 with 52 percent of the vote against opponent John Ritter.

In his first re-election campaign, Day garnered 70 percent of the vote in 2010 against Richard Stine.

The 187th includes parts of western Lehigh County and eastern Berks County.

Day, who told The Press experience was the main factor qualifying him for office, will be able to put that experience to work during the next two years.

He also said the most important issues facing the state were "spending, jobs and a transportation plan."

The state representative will now go to work on those priorities.

In two other area races, there was no question as to the winner on Tuesday.

Incumbent Julie Harhart had no Republican opposition and will again represent the 183rd Legislative District.

In the 132nd District, Democrat Mike Schlossberg was unopposed and will replace the retiring Jennifer Mann in Harrisburg.
