Lil' Hornets get sweep of Mountainville
The Hornet 125-pound team shut out the Mountainville Mounties 28-0 to improve to 5-2 on the year and secure a second-place finish in the Colonial Division of the Suburban Youth Football League.
Jake Miller and Noah Breidinger ran for first half touchdowns and Liam Toomey converted both two-point kicks. The defense was strong allowing minimal yardage. Cameron Brooks blocked a Mountainville punt with Harrison Ike taking the ball into the end zone for a score. Corbin Carraghan, Ben Maehrer and Brent Meilinger ran hard with Meilinger getting a second half score.
The hostile Hornets defense led the 110s to a 19-0 win. The swarming D, starring Kamron Bertie, Caden Wright, and Peyton Hyndman, dominated the game by not allowing the Mounties a single first down throughout the first half. Peak performance on the offensive line by Andrew Amant and Ian Kauffman paved the way for touchdowns by Hyndman, Deonte Castro and Isaiah Serrano. Castro broke through four Mountie tackles and lost a sho, to score an Emmaus touchdown in the highlight run of the day.
The 95-pound Hornets improved to 7-0 with a 19-0 shutout of Mountainville. The Hornets' dominating defense had another outstanding performance holding the Mounties to minimal yards and only one first down. Corner backs Cody Lafaver, Blake Marushak, Aiden Takach and Colin Setzer consistently funneled runs back to the middle where Sam Wassel, Jonas Hausmann, Hunter Mensch and Shepard Hensler were anxiously awaiting the running back.
In a hard-fought battle, the Emmaus 80s persevered to beat the Mountainville Mounties 13-6. The Hornets took the lead on their second offensive series when Jared "Steam" Groller was able punch in a touchdown from nine yards out behind the blocking of Connor "The Shamrock" Brophy, Trevor "Tank" Gitski and David "The Spider" Iobst. In the second half, Lance "Flying Dutchman" Farnschlader added another score for the Hornets with a 25-yard run. The Mounties put together a scoring drive of their own to come within one score of the Hornets, but Emmaus' stingy defense lead by Broc "B-Rock" Andrew, Jake "Flash" Fotta and Chase "The Mauler" Fotta was able to shut down Mountainville's offense the remainder of the game.
The Hornet flag team won its second straight game with a hard fought 7-0 shutout of Mountainville. The offensive line played well and opened holes, allowing the Hornet running backs and quarterbacks to gain 126 yards on the ground and one touchdown. Aaron Watkins gained 40 yards and ran for the game's lone score. Mason Uyvari gained 36 yards, Billy Tigar ran for 20 yards and Marco Albanese and Josiah Williams ran for a combined 25 yards. The defensive front line played a fantastic game and helped Uyvari, Tigar, Albanese, Zack Blose, Jonah Miller, Josiah Williams and Chad Kauffman pull 23 flags.
