Comments only taken beginning of meeting
Board Vice Chairman Richard Hughes began this month's meeting of Lowhill supervisors by reminding residents public comment, to discuss issues in the township, is only allowed at the beginning of the meeting.
"We had a little bit of an issue about this at last month's meeting," he said.
A resident had raised an issue at the end of that meeting, and had been told he could not discuss it at that time.
The resident did not, however, return to present the issue at the October meeting, which was sparsely attended.
The meeting took only 25 minutes, as the agenda was short and two items were bypassed because the individuals to address them were not present.
Eliz Roma presented her final minor subdivision plan for 2721 Post Road.
The board gave conditional approval pending receipt of state Department of Environmental Protection planning modules and payment of the recreation fees.
There was further discussion of the proposed township burn ordinance.
Hughes met with the fire companies and said they did not want to be involved in enforcement of the ordinance.
Township Secretary Jill Seymour said the ordinance would give the fire company on the scene the township's backing to go on private property to extinguish a hazardous fire.
Township Solicitor Charles Waters agreed.
The person responsible for issuing a violation under the ordinance is yet to be determined.
Supervisors took up the question of who should serve as an emergency contact for the fire companies in case of situations such as downed trees in the roadway.
Hughes proposed Roadmaster Carl Kressly should be the primary contact, followed by Assistant Roadmaster Joe Kalusky, Chairman Eugene Weiner, himself and Supervisor Frank Dengler, in that order. The motion was carried.
A donation of $5,000 to New Tripoli Fire Company was approved by the board.
"It's not even what we normally give them," Hughes said, adding the fire company only asks for a donation when it really needs the money.
The date for the second township budget meeting will be Oct. 29, rather than the first Monday in November, as reported earlier.
The intention was to hold the meeting on the Monday before the regular supervisors' meeting, Hughes explained.
Trick-or-Treat Night was set for 6-8 p.m. Oct. 27, rain or shine.
