Mustangs, Lil' Hornets clash in SYFL

Lower Mac and Emmaus had an epic battle at the 125-pound level with the Mustangs coming out on top, 16-6, to win the division title and secure a one seed for the playoffs.

The Mustangs scored early on a 40-yard strike from Stefan Rollins to Drew Dunbar. Chris Smith hit the extra point to give the Mustangs an early 8-0 lead. The Mustangs moved the ball several times deep into Emmaus territory with blocking by Dennis Csensits, Zach Higgins, Josh Gross, Dimitri Anagnostou and Dalton Daddona.

Lower Mac went into halftime with a 8-0 lead, but the Hornets regrouped at the intermission and scored to start the third quarter on a fourth down play thanks to a bruising 35-yard run by Noah Breidinger making the score 8-6. Ben Maehrer also contributed with some big runs on the drive.

The Hornets defense played a tough game stopping Lower Mac on a key fourth down late in the game, with key tackles by Maehrer, Breidinger, Harrison Ike, Cameron Brooks and Brent Meilinger. The Mustang defense was equally stout all day only allowing three first downs led by solid linebacker play of Zach Kociban, Josh Artis, Cody Gross and Smith.

With three minutes left in the game the Lower Mac recovered a Hornet fumble and was able to drive for a last minute score to preserve the win as Rollins again hit Dunbar for a five-yard TD pass. It was a hard fought game and serves as notice that when these two East Penn team join up in 2013 to form the Emmaus Middle School team, they will be one to reckon with.

The Mustang 110s improved to 5-1 with a 28-6 homecoming victory. Sone Ntoh and Bailey O'Connor led the ground attack with a pair of touchdown runs each. Timmy Higgins also racked up rushing yards.

The Mustangs saw great offensive line play from Liam Garrett, Adam Heiserman, Reece Wieder, Matt Garrett and Richie Tracchio. The Lower Mac defense was led by Collin Ravier, Carlton Lovette, Ryan Sylvia, Brandon Camire and Tyler Fritz.

The Hornets scored on their first possession with Peyton Hyndman and Jude Negron giving big blocks which allowed Isaiah Serrano to score. Hyndman, Antonio Rosko, Sean Vandine and Ian "the Bull" Kauffman had outstanding efforts in the loss.

The 95-pound Hornets played a solid game on all sides of the ball and defeated Lower Mac 20-0 to remain undefeated.

Gabe Trexler's powering run for a 55-yard touchdown put the Hornets up 6-0 on the opening drive of the game and set the tone for the day. The Hornet offense struck a couple more times with Kordell Waiters, Chad Newhard, and Nick Blose adding to the score.

The Hornet defense consistently had pressure on the Mustangs with Tristan Francis and Ganon DeFrain penetrating the Mustangs backfield.

The Emmaus 80s defeated the Mustangs 26-6 to remain undefeated.

Offensive linemen Nick Davidson, Jake Fotta, and Trevor "the Tan"î Gitski opened up huge lanes for their backs. The Hornets scored often with touchdown runs by Lance "the Flying Dutchman" Farnschlader (12 and 41 yards), Jared "Steam Roller" Groller (23 yards) and Tyson "T-Bone" Karrat (two yards). Dave Iobst and Aidan "Grizzly" Behr led the Hornets' swarming defense.

Emmaus played a great game holding the Mustangs to one scoring drive which was capped off by a 55-yard touchdown run by Sean Higgins. The Mustang defense was led by Jackson Friz with seven tackles and Logan Mains with five. Sean Higgins had four tackles on the day, while Matthew Baraket, Jake DeVita, and Connor Flok each added three.

The Emmaus Flags team defeated Lower Macungie 14-0 for their first win of the season. The Hornet offensive line was led by Gavin Toman, Jonah Miller, Liam Kennedy, Zack Blose, Josiah Williams, Chad Kauffman and Nick Zernhelt. Their outstanding effort paved the way for 132 yards on the ground and a pair of touchdowns. Aaron Watkins and Marco Albanese carried the ball five times gaining a combined total of 73 yards and two TDs with Billy Tigar, Josiah Williams, Zack Blose, Mason Uyvari, Daniel Farkus and Nick Zernhelt gaining an additional 59 yards on 11 carries.

The defense had an overall outstanding effort with Aaron Watkins, Michael Chies and Isaiah Daly making flag pulls.
