Fausts keep it all in the family at Quinnipiac

David and Annemarie Faust were hoping their triplet daughters track and cross country standouts Amanda, Brianna and Christina would choose to go to the same college.

The 2010 Emmaus high school grads all looked at different schools and chose the one they felt they could be most successful at, settling at Quinnipiac.

"We chose Quinnipiac because of their great physician assistant program," Brianna Faust said. "Our parents really wanted us to go to the same school so it would be easier for them to see us. It worked out because it's what we wanted to do and I'm glad we were able to stick together."

The triplets recently competed in the major Paul Short Invitational meet, where over 2000 runners participated. The race was held at Lehigh University Friday, September 28. It was a bit of a homecoming for the Fausts, and a course they are more than familiar with. The 5k course was the site for both LVC and District 11 championships in the past.

"I loved it, it's one of the best courses that I've ever run on," said Amanda Faust, the 2009-10 East Penn Press female athlete of the year, on the Lehigh course. "It's a fun meet because all of our family is there and our friends are there. It just gives us a lot of motivation knowing they are there and that we've raced there before. We've been running that race since high school."

Quinnipiac finished 18th out of 40 top schools competing. Amanda finished third on the team at a time of 22:31, and Brianna came in at 22:36.

"I think this was one of our best team showings at Paul Short," sad Amanda. "For the first time I actually thought it was kind of slow because it was muddy and everything. We have a lot of freshman on the team, and it was really nice to see them up there with us. Because we did so well at Paul Short, we're ranked 15th in the region, which is cool because it's good to be ranked."

The success started back at Emmaus for the girls. The Green Hornets, led by the Faust triplets, were PIAA state champions three straight years from 2007-2009, and four-time Lehigh Valley Conference and District 11 champions from 2006-2009. That winning attitude has helped the girls transition into a collegiate program at Quinnipiac that had won five straight Northeast Conference championships before they stepped onto campus.

"I think we had good motivation and good confidence in ourselves and our running abilities," Christina Faust said. "Just running those big races in high school, it prepared us for the big races in college.

"I think Emmaus has helped us out a lot. We know people in college that have struggled with the transition from high school, but it was easy for us. Emmaus does a good job academically preparing their students for college."

When asked about sticking together in college and continuing their history of running with each other, all three girls couldn't be happier, and weren't sure if they could've done it without the other.
