The Best of Bob Berger, a celebration of Dr. Berger's life will take place 1-4 p.m. Oct. 14 at Haag's Hotel, Third and Main streets, Shartlesville. Exit I-78, at Shartlesville Exit 23.

Dr. Berger V.M.D., of Schnecksville, had his veterinary practice in Shartlesville for many years until he retired in the late '70s.

He then worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture from 1975-90.

He was very active in community service in Berks and Lehigh counties as well as the Pennsylvania and National Sierra Club.

He had a great love, concern and compassion for animals as well as the preservation of the environment.

He was affectionately known as "Doc" by those who knew him.
