Charotin Hose Co. Fire Calls

The Charotin Hose Company of North Catasauqua responded to the following calls recently, according to information on the fire department's website.

Fire alarm

Aug. 8, 9:50 a.m.

Charotin firefighters responded to the North Catasauqua High Rise at 1400 Main St., North Catasauqua, for an automatic fire alarm. Catasauqua and Northampton fire department personnel responded as automatic mutual aid.

The alarm was sounding in the attic. A crew checked the attic and found no cause for the alarm. The system was restored and maintenance was advised to have the alarm company check the detector.

Fire alarm

Aug. 10, 2:45 a.m.

North Catasauqua Fire Department firefighters were awakened in the middle of the night for a fire alarm at the North Catasauqua High Rise at 1400 Main St., North Catasauqua.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the alarm system was not in alarm. Firefighters checked the building and cleared the scene having found no problems. Valley Housing Authority, who manages the building, was notified for service to the alarm system.

Rescue

Aug. 13, 2 p.m.

Charotin personnel responded into Northampton with the Northampton Fire Department and Northampton Regional EMS for a man who had fallen down an embankment near the borough's police station.

The Northampton assistant fire chief reported the victim was across the creek in the area behind the Northampton Fire Station. Reportedly, the man had fallen down a nearly vertical embankment approximately 30 feet the night before. Friends had searched the area overnight but were unable to see him over the embankment. Northampton Sewage Treatment plant employees heard the man calling for help and called 911.

Northampton water rescue personnel crossed the creek and packaged the patient for removal from the area. Firefighters carried the victim from the creek and transferred care to paramedics waiting on the shore.

Allen Township and Lehigh Township fire departments were also requested on the assignment but were recalled.

Gas leak

Aug. 13, 2:15 p.m.

After leaving the water rescue off Laubach Avenue in Northampton, Charotin personnel were requested to respond to a gas leak at Green Star Recycling. The Northampton assistant fire chief was in command and reporting a significant natural gas leak in the plant. Firefighters established a staging sector as requested by Incident Command.

On scene were apparatus and personnel from Northampton, Allen Township, North Catasauqua and Lehigh Township fire departments as well as Bath EMS and Northampton County Emergency Management. No further details were available about this incident.
