Girls continue to roll

With a District 11 playoff berth wrapped up, Northampton's field hockey team sets its sights on reaching the Lehigh Valley Conference playoffs.

The Konkrete Kids racked up another four wins - all in the LVC - and are now 8-0 in league play and 10-0 overall.

Northampton beat Freedom 4-1, Central Catholic 5-0, Allen 4-1 and Bethlehem Catholic 2-0 for four wins in six days and now get ready for the tough part of their schedule.

The Kids faced host Easton Wednesday and now hit the the meat of their schedule - entertaining Liberty on Saturday during the annual "Senior Day Game" then playing Emmaus at home on Tuesday before visiting Whitehall next Thursday.

"It's the middle of the season and, what with schoolwork and homelife, I'm proud of how are girls are handling it," said coach Kelly Backenstoe. "We're still aggressive and haven't got lethargic. We're scoring, getting shutouts and winning."

The K-Kids got three goals from co-captain Emily Nonnemacher and from Megan Tiwold in their 4-1 victory over Freedom.

Then against CCHS, Nonnemacher, Kate Fehnel, Megan Wiest, Laura Tierney, and Rachel Heimbach did the scoring with Tierney and Nonnemacher also getting assists.

By beating Allen 4-1 the Kids clinched the District 11 playoffs and got goals from Fehnel, Wiest and Megan and Erin Tiwold, Nonnemacher, Fehnel, and Wiest picked up assists.

When the Kids shut out Becahi 2-0 on Tuesday, it was goalie Mikayla Ninos' fifth shutout of the season. co-captain Tori Gollie, Bri Bankos and Bri Dalton were also defensive stalwarts.

Fehnel and Tierney got the Kids' goals with Nonnemacher and Jenni Perry getting assists.

For the season, Nonnemacher is the Kids' leading scorer with 14 goals and 10 assists. Fehnel has six goals and Megan Tiwold has four. Erin Tiwold has three and Wiest, Jackie Miller, Tierney and Heimbach all have two. Autumn Klucsarits has one goal.
