Boys put together wins

The Northampton boys soccer team picked up a couple of recent wins, beating Dieruff 7-0 and Nazareth 3-1.

Seven different Kids scored in the victory over the Huskies at Irving Street Park.

John Yeaw's game-winning goal came a mere 1:55 into the match. He took a Josh Schoenberger pass and sent a ball that hooked into the net. Tyler Davis and Romeo Gaye got first half goals.

Gabe Marth and Sam Gaye scored their first career varsity goals in the second half. AJ Schroettner and Cole Derhammer, who also had an assist, scored for the kids. Julian Santos and Kyle Iasiello notched their first career assists in the game.

Freshmen keeper Austin Cooper made six saves for his first career shutout.

Tyler Davis' two second half goals were enough for Northampton to pull away to their first win of the season on last Tuesday afternoon at Wolf Field.

Marcus Morris scored the first goal of the game with 18:22 to play in the first half when he finished a loose ball about 30 yards from the goal that was originally set up as a corner kick and poorly cleared by Nazareth's defense. The ball deflected off a Nazareth player while in the air and found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.

The first half was a fairly even chess match, where both squads squandered chances. Three minutes after Morris scored, Romeo Gaye nearly made it 2-0 when his header shot went off the post.

At the half, coach Craig Carvin made it a point to say that a one-goal lead was not enough and the team needed to execute more.

Davis notched the second goal off a beautifully chipped ball from Josh Schoenberger into the box, where Davis dribbled through the defense and placed the ball under keeper Brad Buczek.

Nine minutes later, Nazareth got on the board when Jeff Hoagland finished a header off a direct kick that was well placed by Justin Schantzenbach and over the Kids wall of defense.

With 11 minutes remaining, Davis secured the win when he finished a ball that was originally shot by John Yeaw. The ball bounced off the keeper and right to Davis who finished it for the 3-1 final score.

Kory DeCesaris had 11 saves for his first varsity victory as goalkeeper for the Kids. Coach Carvin was happy to get a win, as there are a few winnable games coming up on the schedule.
