Seventy-five miles lay between the Lehigh Valley and the sweetest place on earth.
And, on Saturday, Sept. 15, cyclists participating in the Tour de Hershey will ride this long stretch of road to help combat childhood cancer.
Angel 34's President Doug Sheriff worked to put together the event.
"It took me two years to plan this event," he said. "I did the ride one Sunday from Nazareth to Hershey and found the route that would work."
The event begins at 7 a.m., but the cyclists don't begin their journey until 9 a.m.
"We are hoping for 100 to 200 cyclists," said Sheriff.
"[The event] serves two purposes, it gets individuals out to exercise and it brings awareness and support for the number one killer disease of children today in the United States," he said.
His daughter, Nicole, created Angel 34 while battling childhood cancer.
"This all goes back to our daughter's mission," said Sheriff. "She definitely was my hero and my inspiration. We promised to keep her foundation going to make a difference when and where we can."
The organization hopes to raise $100,000 for the month of September.
Riders that would like to participate in the Tour de Hershey must be 16 year of age or older and register at www.angel34.org.
Each rider must pay a $34 registration fee and must raise a minimum of $150.
Cyclists may sign up as an individual or as a team.
The trip is one way, but transportation for the return trip will be provided.
