First V.P.: Reenock to hold office in state assn.

Northampton Mayor Thomas D. Reenock, who has held many leadership positions in his 36 years in elected office in the borough, is adding another position to his resume – first vice president of the Association of Mayors of the Boroughs of Pennsylvania.

Reenock was tapped for the second highest office by the borough mayors' association at its recent convention.

Reenock has served as second vice president of the state mayors association, an organization comprised of over 600 borough mayors across the commonwealth. His term will last for one year, after which Reenock would be next in line to serve as president of the organization.

He has served as Northampton's mayor for the past 18 years. Before being elected mayor, Reenock was a member of borough council, beginning in 1976. He later served as council president.

The mission of the state mayors organization is to secure closer and more personal relationships among mayors in the state. The association exchanges information among members in order to provide service to each borough and promote progressive legislation that benefits boroughs.

On a local level, Reenock was in the forefront of the major upgrade of the community's veterans plaza, a project spearheaded by the town's three veterans organizations. He continues his role with the borough Sister Cities alliance with Stegersbach, Austria, and the D.A.R.E. (Drug and Alcohol Resistance Education) program conducted by the police department for sixth-grade parochial and public school students.

Reenock has been active with the state borough mayors organization for years and has held various leadership positions. He is active with the Mid Eastern Counties Association of Boroughs, occasionally promoting Northampton as the site of the organization's sessions.

As mayor, Reenock heads the police department.
