Tigers top old nemesis NDGP

The Northwestern Lehigh girls volleyball team has turned around tits history against Notre Dame of Green Pond.

It wasn’t long ago that the Tigers simply could not beat the Crusaders. This season, Northwestern took both matches with Notre Dame by 3-1 scores.

Lexi George continued to build on her program record dig total when she added 41 digs in the win.

With the two teams splitting the first two sets, Northwestern used an 11-2 run to take an 18-17 lead. Northwestern was able to take a 25-22 win and a 2-1 advantage in sets.

In the fourth set, neither team led by more than three points until match point when Northwestern took a 25-21 victory and its second win over the Crusaders this season.

Lacey Clymer and Anna Ebeling both had 10 kills in the match with Clymer also picking up 15 digs. Kayla Schaffer had 24 assists and 14 digs for the Lady Tigers.

The Tigers lost a nonleague match against Pottsville that gave them their only two-game losing streak of the season. The other loss was also against a nonleague opponent in Nazareth, so neither setback hurt their playoff seeding in the Colonial League.

After rebounding against Notre Dame, Northwestern also blanked Salisbury 3-0. No individual stats were available from that match.

Northwestern has a lock on both a District 11 4A and a Colonial League playoff spot. The league playoffs come first and begin next Tuesday at Catasauqua High School.
