Brenda J. Burkhart, 84, of Kutztown, formerly of Lenhartsville, died Aug. 31, 2026, at Willow Brook Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Kutztown.

Born in Northampton, she was the daughter of the late Daniel N. and Grace I. (Hunsicker) Snyder, and the wife of the late David M. Burkhart, who died in 1997.

She was a 1960 graduate of Northwestern Lehigh High School and later earned her LPN Certificate from Reading Area Community College.

She worked as an LPN for the Hearthstone at Maidencreek in Reading, and served as a substitute school nurse for the Northwestern Lehigh School District and as a floating school nurse for the Kutztown School District.

She was a member of Bridge Church in Hamburg, as well as the Praetorius German Association in Germansville.

In 1974, she made history as the first woman union laborer for Alvin J. Butz Construction Co.

She is survived by son Dean E. Hartman of Orefield and daughters Betty J. (David R.) Geisler and Tina M. Hartman, both of Kempton; five grandchildren, Derrick, Rody, Katie, Megan and Jillian; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Brian L. (Bonnie) Snyder and Gary D. Snyder, both of New Tripoli and sister Patricia (Daniel) Christ of Kempton; brother-in-law, Peter Reichert of Egypt; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her infant daughter, Lisa G. Hartman; sister, Rita K. Snyder; nephew, Brett Snyder; and sister-in-law, Susie Snyder.
