LHS boys win two

Liberty’s boys cross country team won 2 of 3 dual meets last week, defeating Allen, 15-50, and Dieruff, 25-36.

Liberty lost to Parkland, 15-50.

“Our runner that’s been best all season is sick today, Emerson Blasi,” said Liberty coach Joe Spang. “We lost eight seniors, but thankfully we have about 30 ninth and 10th graders out of 41 boys, and we have some great leaders out of the 11th and 12th grade boys.”

Sean Haas was the first to cross the finish line for the Hurricane boys, placing 21st (19:56.7).

“I felt like I had good form, and I was running well,” Haas said. “I think my mindset was get out good and then just try to keep the same pace the whole time, and at the end, just try to kick well and strong. It was a little discouraging seeing 20 Parkland kids run out in front of you.”

Alex Rodriguez placed 30th (20:30.6), Calvin Rittle was 32nd (20:31.7), and Logan Lech came in 34th (20:35.4).

“Before the race started, we semi-joking, semi-seriously, told each other we should race each other at the end, so I decided to pick it up and see how many people I can pick off while still staying ahead of them with a little friendly, competitive nature,” said Rodriguez. “Also, hearing a lot of people cheer just boosts your adrenaline, so then you have more at the end. Luckily, I was with two people that I know really well, which was great because we got to stay together and help push each other, and it was really a good race.”

Cameron Slocum placed 39th (20:48.6) and David Torres came in 40th (20:51.9).

Freedom’s boys beat Allen, 15-50, Dieruff, 21-40, and lost to Parkland, 43-20.

Patriot senior Brayden Boyle won the boys race with a time of 17:08.9, and Parkland’s Ezra Wilson placed second in 18:07.4.
