Trojans ride win streak
The Parkland High School boys soccer team continues its run of strong play after a season-opening loss.
The Trojans have rattled off seven straight wins, including four in a busy week last week, all shutouts in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action.
Parkland opened the week by taking down East Stroudsburg South 8-0 last Tuesday, Sept. 15, and then followed that the next night with a 5-0 victory over Stroudsburg.
This past Saturday, the Trojans won 5-0 at Pleasant Valley and then beat East Stroudsburg North 13-0 at home last Monday.
In the victory over the Cavaliers, both Evan Smith and Ethan Frey scored twice and each of Eddie Curelar, Salah Khdour, Zayan Yasir and Jacob Tawfik found the back of the net once. Alex Hurwitz dished out two assists, while Jose Canela Trujillo, Julian Park and Javan Roustic all had one.
Parkland outshot ESS 21-1 and had a 5-0 edge in corner kicks. Matt Feiller finished with one save in net.
In the win against the Mounties, Frey and Curelar both tallied two goals and Hurwitz rounded out the scoring with one. Carter Shirk and Tawfik added an assist each. Feiller made two saves.
The Trojans had a 9-2 advantage in shots on goal and 5-0 edge in corners.
Against the Bears, Parkland netted three goals in the first half and added two more in the second half. Both Park and Frey scored twice and Cameron Guardiola added the fifth. Hurwitz contributed an assist. Feiller had three saves in goal.
In the game with the Timberwolves, there were six different goal scorers, led by four from Park. Hurwitz also netted a hat trick and both Curelar and Canela Trujillo notched two goals. Frey and Evan Smith both had one.
Yasir, Matteus Chiatonne, Guardiola, Roustic, Cameron Becker and Daichi Yamashita all contributed an assist. Parkland had 23 shots to ESN’s two and Andrew Staples finished with two saves.
Parkland, which improved to 7-1 overall and 7-1 in the conference, was at Liberty this past Wednesday, hosts Nazareth Friday and then welcomes Conestoga to town for a nonconference matchup Saturday. The Trojans are then at Allen Monday.
