SHS golf team earns fifth win
It had been over a decade since the Salisbury High School golf team won more than four matches in a season.
That changed last week when the Falcons beat Wilson 427-429 to improve to 5-5 this season. They have already won two more matches than last season with two remaining on the schedule.
The last time Salisbury won more than four matches in a season was 2014 when the Falcons went 8-5.
In last Thursday’s win over the Warriors at Harker’s Hollow Golf Course, Chase Yakaitis shot 2-over par 72 for the low round of the match. Jackson Skeans’ 77 was also pivotal in the team win, along with solid play from Markus Jones (87), Hunter Kotarski (93) and Logan Kao (98). Dom Nimeh (103), Pierson Campbell (103) and Gavin Kotarski (110) also played in the match for Salisbury.
Wilson was led by Chase Braken’s 81.
Salisbury battled to a 445-454 win over Saucon Valley a day earlier. Skeans led the way with a 78 last Wednesday, Sept. 9, at the Steel Club. Yakaitis (83), Jones (89), Nimeh (95) and Hunter Kotarski (100) also contributed to the team score against the Panthers.
Gavin Kotarski (105), Garrett Leiner (105) and Campbell (109) also played in the match for the Falcons.
Anthony Albano shot even-par 72 to earn medalist honors in the match.
Salisbury took on a one-win Palisades (1-9) team Tuesday (after Press deadline) with a chance for the season’s fifth. The Falcons finish the regular season Wednesday with a tough match against Southern Lehigh (12-1 overall, 8-0 Colonial League).
Players who qualify will compete in next week’s league championship tournament. Players with a low enough scoring average to qualify for the District 11 qualifying tournament will play in that event Tuesday, Sept. 29 at Shawnee Golf Course with the district championships scheduled for one week later at Steel Club.
