Outdoors: No more calendar-based sales

By the time you read this, the Pennsylvania Board of Game Commissioners voted on Friday, Sept 25, to eliminate calendar-based sales for doe (antlerless) license sales to give the Pennsylvania Game Commission more flexibility to adjust the sale process based on hunters needs and license availability.

This is being done, says the PGC, to implement a structure and process that provides for the fair and equitable distribution of antlerless deer licenses they allocate to each wildlife management unit annually. And will do so for each wildlife management unit (WMU) after its review of available management data.

Antlerless license applications will be accepted for each WMU on a first-come, first-served basis sales process that will continue until the supply of licenses is exhausted for each WMU.

It goes on, an eligible applicant may make one or more applications for antlerless deer licenses only when the PGC’s PALS licensing system shows five or less active and unfilled antlerless deer licenses on the applicant’s license profile. Once an applicant has been issued a sixth cumulative active and unfilled antlerless deer license, the applicant will not be eligible to make reapplication for additional licenses until one or more previously issued antlerless licenses have been exhausted by harvest and the harvest or harvests have resulted in a verified completed harvest report in PALS. Except as provided in the law, at no time is an applicant authorized to exceed six cumulative active and unfilled antlerless licenses in the PALS license profile.

In WMU units 5C and 5D, an eligible applicant may make one or more applications for antlerless deer licenses only when the PGC’s PALS licensing system shows 14 or fewer active and unfilled antlerless deer licenses on the applicant’s license profile.

Once an applicant has been issued a fifteenth cumulative active and unfilled antlerless deer license, the applicant will not be eligible to make reapplication for additional antlerless licenses until one or more previously issued antlerless licenses have been exhausted and the harvest or harvests have resulted in a verified completed harvest report in PALS. Expect as provided, at no time is an applicant authorized to exceed 15 cumulative active and unfilled antlerless licenses in their PALS license profile.
