D-11 berths on line
Liberty, Freedom, and Bethlehem Catholic sent some of their golfers to the District 11 Golf Qualifier Tournament at Shawnee Inn and Resort Tuesday.
All three teams participated in the East Penn Conference (EPC) tournament held at Great Bear Golf Club in East Stroudsburg the previous week.
Qualifiers will advance to the District 11 championships at the Steel Club Golf Club in Hellertown Oct. 6.
Under head coach Steve Bradley, Liberty has seven boys and two girls at the tournament. They were Jake Wachinski, Andrew Erfle, Braeden Beck, Cameron Rodriguez, John Kintzer, Connor Wieand, Ryan Dunn, Sophi Stuart, and Aubrey Oaks.
At the recent East Penn Conference (EPC) Tournament, Wachinski paced the field with an 81, Erfle and Wieand each shot an 87, and Dunn had an 88. The Hurricanes finished fourth as a team in the EPC.
“We are happy with the amount of players we have in districts,” said Bradley. “We were the sixth-seeded team in the tournament, and we finished fourth. It was a good day for us.
“We had a practice round, and that went well. The kids were excited to play in the tournament.”
Freedom, under head coach Mike Evans, had Audrina Montesano, Connor Depaolis, and Leah Majumdar qualify for the district qualifier.
However, Montesano won’t play in the district tournament due to a foot injury. Depaolis didn’t play in the EPC championships because he was sick, but he will play in the district qualifier. Leah Majumdar finished eighth in the EPC among the female players, and she will play in the District qualifier as well. Majumdar had a 115 at the tournament.
Bethlehem Catholic, under Mark Csencsits, will send Ralson Rowlands, Zack Ostrosky, Nicholas Mclean, Jackson Gencarelli, and Lincoln Kelly to the qualifier tournament. Rowlands fired an 84, and Kelly shot a 87 at the EPC tournament.
During the regular season, Liberty finished with an 11-4 record, Freedom ended at 5-10, and Bethlehem Catholic posted a 7-8 mark.
