Even with one arm almost entirely wrapped in a soft cast that prevented her from bending her elbow, Alayna Hahn still proved to be the most dynamic athlete on the field as the Northampton girls soccer team picked up its first win of the year in beating Pocono Mountain East 2-0 last Thursday.

Although the cast limited her ability to be physical, Hahn’s speed, she was the top sprinter on the K-Kids’ track team, was enough cause the Cardinals’ defense fits and led to the first goal of the game. She took a pass from Elsie Conrad and buried the shot into the back of the net at 28:36 of the first half.

The senior forward was only recently cleared to play after suffering her latest injury. Another arm injury cost her the end of her junior season.

“She’s so dangerous, oh my goodness. Can you image her without a cast?” remarked head coach Trojano Bastidas. “In the offseason we were working on her laying the ball off and doing all kinds of stuff and right now, she literally can’t do it. She can run, but she can’t be physical.”

Hahn’s goal would have been enough, but the Kids were gifted an own goal by PM East with 1 second left in the first half.

Despite the close score, Northampton controlled the game completely. They held the Cardinals to a single shot on goal which resulted in a routine save for keeper Grace Caulwell. The Kids generated 16 shots, 8 of which were on frame.

It was a bit of a slog for the K-Kids overall. They were coming off a game against Parkland, a competitive 1-0 loss, the night before and the had no time to recover before going back out on the muggy afternoon.

Bastidas gave his thoughts on the team’s overall performance, “It was tough from not having any rest, but we handled it well. Some of the turnovers were happening I think due to the fatigue, but we were still able to keep our composure and stay disciplined defensively. We were able to sub in a lot of players and still hold them off at the end, which was very good.”
