Redeemed Christian Church of God Living Spring International Center, located at 5-17 N. Third St., Coplay, held a free back-to-school and family cookout event Aug. 15 on church grounds. The event’s fun and fellowship was demonstrated throughout the afternoon.

There were games for kids and the opportunity to explore a Coplay Fire Department truck with firefighters answering questions and letting the kids sit inside.

Pastor Akomolede was delighted with the event. He noted his congregation is growing, and he seeks to increase the number of Coplay residents joining the church. He was happy with the dynamic, up-tempo activities and the artistic solemn church services.

Akomolede and his spouse Nola Akomolede hobnobbed in fellowship with the adults while kids played with water balloons and jump ropes.

Cooks Ade Poju and Ade Mola staffed the barbecue grill, making beef kebabs and more. They were cheerful as they served food to attendees. All the food and drink were gratis in the spirit of welcoming and developing community.

Tents placed on the closed North Third Street afforded places for attendees to sit and socialize, and there were tables covered with free backpacks, school supplies and colored chalk. The group of kids distributing the items were having fun helping others. Students were from the Allentown, Bethlehem and Parkland school districts.

Redeemed Christian Church of God Living Spring International Center is a dynamic, multicultural and nondenominational international church. The free community cookout was successful for a number of reasons, including perfect weather, delicious food, fun and community connections.
