The Salisbury High School boys basketball team continued its strong run of games to finish out the summer offseason two weekends ago.

After finishing as semifinalists of the Small School Division in the Bash at the Beach tournament the weekend prior, the Falcons hit the outdoor courts at Cedar Beach and competed in the second major tournament of the summer, the A-town Throwdown.

Salisbury opened the tournament with a 30-24 victory over Freedom behind 16 points from Julian Makhoul. Later that night, the Falcons fell to Octorara 39-34, with Makhoul recording a game-high 19 points.

Salisbury went 1-1 in pool play and advanced to the play-in portion on Saturday, but lost to Dieruff to end the weekend.

Head coach Jason Weaver reflected on the tournament and how his team played.

“We had members of the JV squad and our varsity in games over the weekend,” said Weaver. “I like the pool play format. It was nice to see different teams that we don’t get to see all summer and play against quality competition.”

The A-town Throwdown was the culmination of a busy summer with a lot of competition.

“The summer went well,” Weaver said. “We played 20 games at the varsity level and had 12 JV games we competed in. A lot of kids got good experience. It also showcased what we need to work on to compete in the league and district. We’ve been busy the past two and a half months. We will take a break in August then get back at it once school starts.”

At the A-town Throwdown, Falcons JV lost to Executive Education on Thursday evening, but bounced back to take down Pen Argyl 30-15 on Saturday. The Falcons followed that on Saturday evening with a 25-23 win against Lehigh Valley Academy.
