Aug. 5

The Borough of Alburtis Police Department will host National Night Out 6-8 p.m. at Alburtis Community Pool, 242 Walnut St. The event will feature family-friendly activities and public safety demonstrations.

Aug. 7

The Macungie Band will return to the Victorian band shell in Allentown’s West Park 7 p.m. The park is located between West Turner and Linden streets at North 16th Street, Allentown. Music fans may enjoy the music from one of the many benches or bring a lawn chair for seating. In case of rain or extreme heat, the concert will take place at Lehigh Valley Active Life senior center, 1633 Elm St., Allentown. Featured selections include the “Allentown Fair Centennial March,” written by the late Ray Wetherhold (1893-1987), who directed the Macungie Band from 1928 to 1933; a tribute to singer Frank Sinatra; selections from the musical “West Side Story” and John Philip Sousa’s “The Stars and Stripes Forever” march. All are welcome.

Aug. 11

JuxtaHub, 375 S. 10th St., Emmaus, will host a closing reception for its summer exhibition “The Color of Stories” 6-8 p.m. The exhibition features work by artists Alexandra Schnabel, Anthony Smith, Billy Thompson, Dayanara Romero, Deming King-Harriman, Dylan Collazo, Evan Stutts, Genesis Rodriguez, Julia Lundy, Tijasia Lett and Tory Schultz. Admission is free and all are welcome.

Aug. 12

Grace Lutheran Church, 28 W. Main St., Macungie, will hold a free food distribution 2-4 p.m. Also Aug. 26. Recipients must reside in the East Penn School District. A weekly food cupboard is no longer offered at the church. Signs will be posted with directions on where to park and which door to use to pick up food.

Aug. 14

Grace Lutheran Church, 28 W. Main St., Macungie, will host a free community meal 5-6:30 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. Diners also are welcome to come inside to pick up a takeout meal. Call the church office at 610-966-3325 for additional details.

Aug. 15-16

The Seed Farm, 5854 Vera Cruz Road, will host its fifth annual Fall Plant Sale 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 15 and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 16. The sale is held rain or shine and features cold-tolerant and frost-friendly vegetable, flower and herb plant starters as well as starters for native plants. All starters are pesticide-free, grown without synthetic chemicals and non-GMO.

Aug. 16

The Vera Cruz Community Association will host the 74th annual Vera Cruz Homecoming celebration noon to 8 p.m. at Mystic Chain Park, Main Road East, Upper Milford Township. The event will include music performances by the Rehrig Brothers, noon to 3 p.m. and the band Time Whys, 5 to 8 p.m. A cakewalk will be held 3 p.m. All are welcome.

Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church, 535 W. Emaus Ave., Allentown, will host a free back-to-school event 4-7 p.m. The event will include games, a family-friendly magician, a bounce house, free haircuts for children, hot dogs, chips and more. Students will have chances to win school supplies and a bicycle.
