Coplay: Baseball sign-ups underway

Coplay Sports is holding online-only baseball sign-ups for boys ages 9-18 for the upcoming fall baseball season. Online registration is available at coplaysports.org.

Coplay Saengerbund, 205 S. Fifth St., has scheduled its Friday night concerts.

The July lineup includes The Castaway Band July 24 and Ricky and the Rebels July 31. The August lineup is Project 9 Aug. 7, DNA Aug. 14, Third Hand Band Aug. 21 and Honey Buzzards Aug. 28.

The gate opens 5 p.m., the kitchen will open 5:30 p.m., and the music ends 10 p.m.

The Wednesday night summer concert series at Second and Chestnut streets features Mike Scherer and Sue Rabenold July 29. The August and September lineup includes Castaway Band Aug. 12, Tim Harakal Aug. 26, James Supra Sept. 9 and Roy Ramos Sept. 23.

Concerts are 6-9 p.m.

Bring a blanket or chair, and enjoy an evening of music with friends and neighbors.

The 72nd annual St. Peter Roman Catholic Church picnic and homecoming will be held noon-9 p.m. Aug. 2 on the church grounds, 4. S. Fifth St. It will take place rain or shine.

There will be food, music, fun for kids and much more. The Josef Kroboth Band and Flirtin’ with the Mob will entertain.

Bring your lawn chairs. Everyone is welcome.

The National Night Out Against Crime is set for Aug. 4. NNO is an annual nationwide event designed to promote police-community partnerships, crime prevention and neighborhood camaraderie.

Coplay Police Department asks residents, in honor of NNO, to turn on their front porch lights from dusk to midnight to show unity against crime.

The 45th annual Coplay Community Days is set for Aug. 28-30.

It kicks off 5 p.m. Aug. 28 and will continue noon-9 p.m. Aug. 29 and 30. It is a celebration of the local cement industry, particularly the former Coplay Cement Company workers. There will be music, an array of foods, dancing, friendship and time to reconnect with friends. The Aardvarks will perform 6 p.m. Aug. 28.

The mayor’s office is seeking Coplay residents interested in developing and leading a Coplay town watch. Training will be provided in crime watching and activities to increase the safety of Coplay.

The Coplay Food Bank, located in the municipal building, is open 8:30-10 a.m. the second Tuesday of every month. If unable to attend the Tuesday morning time frame, call Jodi at 610-262-0928 to make other arrangements.

The model train room is operated by Explorer Post 101. Meetings are 7-9 p.m. every Thursday on the second floor of the municipal building. The mission is to promote interest in the hobby of model railroading among 12- to 21-year-olds. There is also an Explorer Club for youths age 12-14.

Coplay aerobics classes take place 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:45 a.m. Saturdays and 7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays in the borough hall auditorium. There is a cost by donation.

Bring light dumbbells, a towel and a mat to enhance your workout.
