Baseball falls to Southern Lehigh

The Whitehall Zephyrs held onto a 4-0 lead through five innings before falling to Southern Lehigh, 7-6, in a District XI Class 5A baseball semifinal on May 24 at North Schuylkill.

Sudge Hoderewski’s single to right field in the third inning put the Zephyrs ahead, 2-0.

Then, in the fourth inning, Kolby Miller’s single to left field made the score, 4-0.

Southern Lehigh scored its first run in the bottom of the fourth on Evan Przyuski’s two-out RBI single to center field.

Whitehall pitcher Jack Lloyd had a quick first two innings and got out of a Southern Lehigh threat that stranded two runners in the third.

Lloyd and Spartan pitcher Chase Woodring had one-two-three fifth innings, but in the bottom of the sixth, Southern Lehigh plated six runs to take a 7-4 lead.

Whitehall rallied in the top of the seventh when Miller got on base, and Donato Brigidi singled to right field.

Hoderewski’s RBI double scored Miller, and Nik Christman’s RBI ground out scored Brigidi, leaving Hoderewski on third base to end the season.

Whitehall finished the season with a 17-6 record.

Southern Lehigh will have competed in the district final on May 26.
