The Emmaus High School girls lacrosse team had a successful week last week, winning two of its three games.

The Hornets won their lone Eastern Pennsylvania Conference matchup and went 1-1 in nonconference games.

The Hornets opened the week by defeating Central Catholic 18-4 last Monday, April 20, and then took down Moravian Academy 18-1 the next day. Last Thursday night, Emmaus was upended by Southern Lehigh 8-7.

In the win against the Vikettes, Rylie Poll, Taylor Younker and Avery Aquino recorded four goals each, with Poll adding three assists and Aquino one.

Sarah Gross netted a hat trick and Kathryn Newhard, Ally Kusko and Sarah Palazzo found the back of the net once each, with Newhard contributing an assist.

Kate Rainford finished with five saves in net. Madison Lenig won a team-best eight draw controls and tied Evelyn Gavin and Lily Smith with a team-high three groundballs.

In the victory against the Lions, 10 different EHS players scored goals, led by Kusko, who tallied four goals and dished out two assists. Poll netted a hat trick and Gavin, Aquino and Smith each tallied two goals, with Aquino and Gavin combining for five assists.

Younker, Gross, Palazzo, Kayla Wassel and Ava Roberts rounded out the scoring with a goal apiece. Rainford made two saves for the win.

In the game with the Spartans, Emmaus trailed 3-2 after the opening quarter, but outscored Southern Lehigh 3-1 in the second to take a 5-4 lead into halftime. The roles reversed in the third as the Spartans scored three of the four third-quarter goals to go ahead by two, and then the two teams traded goals in the fourth as SL held on to win.

Aquino led the attack with three goals and had an assist. Younker recorded two goals and an assist and both Newhard and Kusko found the back of the net once. Lenig collected three groundballs and won three draw controls. Rainford stopped two shots.

Emmaus (10-4 overall; 5-2 EPC through last week’s games) headed into this week with three games left on the schedule and only one league game, Thursday when Parkland visits Memorial Field.

Heading into the final week of the regular season, the Hornets reside in third place in the EPC standings behind Pleasant Valley (12-1, 6-0) and Nazareth (14-1, 5-1) with Parkland (11-3, 3-3) in fourth place.
