Lower Macungie Township pool to open May 23

Summer concerts are back!

Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival will perform “As You Like It” 6:30 p.m. May 31; Jeff Krick will play sounds of the 1950s, 1960s and Elvis 6-8 p.m. June 5; Elijah Smith & Los Padres will play a mix of country, folk and rock originals 6-8:30 p.m. June 13; The Large Flowerheads will play sounds of the 1960s 6:30-8:30 p.m. June 26 at the Hills at Lockridge Park Bandshell, 7125 Scenic View Drive, Lower Macungie Township.

Lower Macungie Pool will open May 23. Hours are noon to 8 p.m. May 23-25 and May 30-31 and June 6-7 and June 11-July 31. The pool will only be open weekends until June 11. The pool will close 4:45 p.m. for swim meets June 25, 29 and July 6. Swim lessons will be available. Celebrate Father’s Day at the pool 2-4 p.m. June 21 with free root beer and soft pretzels for dad.

Lower Macungie Township with Emmaus Rotary Club and Food Coalition will hold a food drive supporting families of the East Penn School District. Food donations can be dropped off through June 26 in the lobby of the Lower Macungie Community Center, 3450 Brookside Road.

The Lower Macungie Township Senior Citizens will meet noon June 2 at the community center. Singing duo Chris & Steph will provide entertainment. New members are welcome; they must be Lower Macungie Township residents over 60 years old.

Lower Lehigh AARP will meet noon June 4 in the lower level of Macungie Memorial Hall at Macungie Memorial Park. New members are welcome. For more information, contact Dot at 610-967-3284.

The Alburtis Seniors will meet noon June 17 at Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Quarry Road, Alburtis. There will be a potluck buffet lunch followed by a meeting and bingo. There is a small charge. Bring a covered dish. For more information, call Doris at 610-966-3653.

Lower Macungie Township has partnered with Upper Macungie Township to offer memberships to the Splash Park. Visit the Upper Macungie Township website for details.

The Summer Playground Program is offered 9 a.m. to noon June 29-Aug. 14 at Church Lane Park, Hills at Lockridge Park, Quarry Park, and Wild Cherry Park.

Camp Lower Mac for children ages 6-12 years old is offered 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 15-Aug. 21 at the community center.

There are a number of activities planned for children, teens and adults at the Lower Macungie Library, open 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The library will be closed May 23 and 25 in observance of Memorial Day.

The afternoon book club will meet 1-2:30 p.m. May 21 to discuss “The Women” by Kristin Hannah. The book for June 18 is “West With Giraffes” by Lynda Rutledge. The book club meets at the library.

Fun, Friendship, and Fiber Arts (for adults) will meet 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 22 and June 5 and 26. Bring your projects and make friends and share ideas.

Recipe Swap & Share: Rodney Scott’s World of BBQ will meet 6 p.m. May 26.

Bring a menu item to celebrate Immigrant Heritage Month 6 p.m. June 11.

There will be Sensory Coloring and Crafting for Adults 11 a.m. to noon May 26 and June 23.

Teen Dungeons and Dragons for grades 6-12 will meet 4-5:30 p.m. May 26 and June 22.

The Lower Macungie Library Book Club book for 10:30 a.m. to noon June 3 will be “The Bookmark” by Anne Supsic. The book club meets virtually.

Books and Beyond will meet 6 p.m. June 8 at Foundation Tavern to discuss books, music, movies and more. The next meeting will be July 13 to discuss “The Road” by Cormac McCarthy.

The Art of Conversation Café for adults will meet 10 a.m. to noon June 12. This will be a relaxed environment to discuss ideas, play games or do crafts. Hot beverages will be provided.

Dig for Dinosaurs with Paleontologists Mike and Roberta Stratka for all ages will meet 11 a.m. to noon June 13.

Outlaws in the Underworld: Bucks County Caves and the Doan Gang for adults will be held 1-3 p.m. June 15. Clint Flack, exhibit specialist at the Mercer Museum, will share stories of the exploration of Bucks County caves and their role in the American Revolution.

Wildlife All Around Us! for ages 8-17 years will offer hands-on environmental science and outdoor exploration 2-3 p.m. June 16. The event be presented by the 4-H.

Firetruck storytime for preschool and youth will be held 10-10:30 a.m. June 20. The Lower Macungie Fire Department will bring a firetruck.

America’s 250th Birthday Party! for all ages will be held 1-3 p.m. June 20. The drop-in program will offer hands-on activities and crafts.

Memory Lane – a program for adults with dementia and their caregivers – will meet 1 p.m. June 22. Candice Leone, memory care program director, from Genesis Lehigh Commons will offer programming that includes crafts, games and music in a safe environment.

Lower Macungie Township offers indoor pickleball at the community center gymnasium. Advance registration is required.

Open gym is also available at the community center. Residents must purchase an annual membership to use the gym.

Lower Macungie Township offers many programs for adults and children.

Adult classes include yoga, Zumba, Pilates, martial arts and tai chi. Youth classes include cooking, martial arts, golf and tot sports.

The community center is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Staff will be available by phone during that time at 610-966-6924. Updates will also be posted on Facebook.

Yard waste center hours for May are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Friday and noon to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Hours for June 1-Oct. 31 are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. Yard waste permits are required for drop-off. The center is located at 5536 Indian Creek Road, Macungie.

Weekly curbside collection of grass clippings takes place the same day as trash collection. Yard waste collection is every other week May 26, June 8 and 22.
