Tigers top Liberty, fall to ACC, EHS

Northwestern Lehigh cruised to a win against Liberty recently and then played a pair of tight games against Central Catholic and Emmaus. The Tigers lost both of the games and saw their record fall to 3-3 in the early going.

Junior Tyler Kaas and sophomore Kendall Wikert found success in the recent games. Kaas and Wikert combined for five of the Tigers eight goals in an 8-1 win against Liberty. Grayson Christman, Braydon Uricchio, and Braxton Lakatosh accounted for the three other goals against the Hurricanes.

The rivalry against Allentown Central Catholic continued recently with the Vikings winning the only regular season meeting between the two teams.

In this meeting, Wikert and Kaas combined for 12 goals with Wikert notching seven of the scores. The Vikings picked up a 16-13 win against the Tigers with Christman getting the only other goal in the game for Northwestern.

Dane Kauker, the Tigers’ senior goalie, made eight saves against the Hurricanes and added seven more against Central Catholic.

While controlling faceoffs worked for Northwestern in those two games, the Tigers struggled against Emmaus Tuesday. Northwestern had eight controls against Liberty and 13 against Central Catholic.

Against the Hornets, Northwestern controlled just four of the 18 faceoffs, hurting its offensive chances in an 8-7 loss at Emmaus.

Northwestern will have six days off until its next outing, which is at home against Southern Lehigh on Tuesday. Next week’s schedule has the Tigers playing at Saucon Valley on Thursday as well.
