The Northwestern girls track and field team captured the team title at the annual Tamaqua Invitational on Saturday.

Northwestern’s boys team, which placed fifth in the team standings, also collected three firsts at the Invite. Logan Mesics outjumped the field in the triple jump, while Ethan Kaschak captured the pole vault event. The Tigers also registered a first in the 3200 relay.

In the girls competition, the Tigers narrowly edged Lehighton and Palmerton for the team title. Northwestern ended with 117, compared to the Indians’ 114 and the Bombers’ 112.

Natalie Nestor crossed first in the 800 for the Tigers, and Mallory Conner ended on top in the discus. Northwestern’s 3200 relay team also added a winning performance.

Northwestern posted a sweep of Saucon Valley in Colonial League action Tuesday.

Both Tiger teams reached the century mark, as the boys rolled to a 111 1/2-38 1/2 victory while the girls cruised to a 106-43 decision.

Michael Lagowy posted a pair of individual wins for the Northwestern boys, taking both the long jump and high jump, while all three relay teams finished first.

In the girls meet, Sophia Schaffer (100, 400) and Jossalin Romanot (100 hurdles, pole vault) each gained multiple wins.
