Parkland remains unbeaten in EPC
The Parkland baseball team stayed unbeaten in East Penn Conference play with three league wins last week. The Trojans suffered their first loss of the season Monday in a nonleague game at Quakertown.
Parkland beat Pocono Mountain East 12-0 in five innings Friday. The Trojans scored four runs in the second inning, six in the third and two more in the bottom of the fourth to seal the mercy-rule win.
Carter DeLong pitched 4.2 innings and allowed just one hit while striking out five Cardinal batters and walking three.
Sawyer Marstellar led the offense, going 2-for-2 with four RBI and two runs.
The Trojans held on for a 4-2 win over Whitehall last Wednesday, March 25.
Host Parkland took a 1-0 lead in the first inning before the Zephyrs tied the game in the fourth inning.
The Trojans responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Whitehall, which out-hit Parkland 8-5 in the game, capped the scoring with a run in the seventh.
Luqkai Dickson went 2-for-3 for Parkland. Tsubasa Magota, Ben Weninger and Grant Damweber had one hit each in the game.
Marstellar pitched five innings and allowed one run on five hits while striking out nine Zephyrs and walking one. Dempsey Lawson pitched two innings, allowing three hits and a run while striking out three Zephs and walking three batters.
The Trojans needed just five innings to dispatch of Allen, 14-2 last Tuesday, March 24, as they pounded 14 hits in the game and jumped out to an 11-1 lead after two innings.
Weninger went 3-fo4- with two runs in the win. DeLong was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a pair of runs scored.
Jack Streeter was 2-for-2 with three runs and an RBI. Dickson was 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs. Henry Weikel drove in three runs in the win.
Chase Brunner pitched three innings and allowed one unearned run while striking out five Canaries and walking two to earn the win.
The win put the Trojans at 4-0 in league play and 4-1 overall.
In Monday’s 8-2 loss to Quakertown, Magota went 2-for-3 with an RBI. DeLong was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Heading into this week, Parkland was tied with Central Catholic (4-0) for the lead in the EPC Lehigh Division. Whitehall (3-1 EPC) was third and Emmaus (2-1) fourth. Pocono Mountain East (5-0, 4-0) in the Monroe Division is the only other unbeaten team in the EPC. Liberty (3-2, 3-1) leads Nazareth (2-1, 2-1) in the Northampton Division.
