Parkland boys volleyball tops Dieruff, Whitehall

The Parkland High School boys volleyball team was able to build off its successful day at the Bobcat Invitational back on Saturday, March 28, when it finished in fifth place overall out of a strong field.

The Trojans won six-of-seven matches in the event at Northeastern High School in York. They followed that with two straight wins in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference competition.

Parkland’s first time out last week was a straight-set victory over Dieruff last Wednesday, April 1t. After almost a week off for the Easter holiday, the Trojans downed rival Whitehall in four sets.

In the win over the Huskies, Parkland won by scores of 25-9, 25-15, 25-12.

Leading the way for Parkland was Jude Ruisch with eight kills and one block, Bear Jacobs with eight kills and three blocks, Ryan Kearney with seven kills and three blocks, Zeke Gordner with seven kills, Gabe Chase with 29 assists, three aces and two digs and Owen Barnett with 20 digs.

In the victory against the Zephyrs, Parkland came out on top by scores of 28-26, 21-25, 28-26, 25-20. Highlights of the match included Zamin Soonasra recording 16 kills, three aces, six digs and one block. Ruisch and Jacobs each added 12 kills and Jacobs also had six blocks. Chase dished out 54 assists, 11 digs and one ace.

Barnett collected 25 digs, two assists and one ace.

Parkland improved to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in the conference.
