Parkland beats Easton, PM East

The Parkland High School boys volleyball team continued its win streak in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference play with two more victories last week. The Trojans also competed in the Koller Classic at Central York High School last Saturday.

The Trojans defeated Easton in four sets last Thursday by scores of 25-9, 23-25, 25-15 and 25-15. On Saturday, Parkland finished in ninth place overall at the Koller Classic, and then followed that with a straight-set victory over Pocono Mountain East Monday by scores of 25-11, 25-13 and 25-16.

In the win over the Red Rovers, Jude Ruisch led the way offensively with 13 kills and contributed one dig and one assist. Bear Jacobs finished with 11 kills, two blocks, three digs, one ace and one assist. Zamin Soonasra and Zeke Gordner each tallied eight kills, two blocks and six digs each, with Gordner also totaling five aces and Soonasra had three aces.

Gabe Chase dished out 37 assists. Owen Barnett collected 12 digs to lead the defense.

In pool play at Saturday’s tournament, the Trojans beat Penn Manor (25-15, 25-20); Central York (25-17, 25-23); and Carlisle (25-16, 25-13); but fell to Shaler Area (19-25, 23-25). In the first round of the tournament playoffs, the Trojans fell to rival Emmaus 25-18. Parkland battled through their initial pool, emerging as the No. 1 seed from pool D by point differential. Parkland (+38), Central York (+33), and Shaler (+28) all finished 6-2. Parkland then faced local rival Emmaus in the second round of playoffs, where the Hornets ended Parkland’s day in the single-game playoff 25-18. The No. 1 team in AAA, North Allegheny took the Koller Tournament title over the No. 3 team in AAA, Central Dauphin.

In the victory against the Cardinals, Gordner finished with eight kills, two blocks, five digs and one ace. Ruisch netted six kills. Soonasra recorded five kills and three aces. Aashay Karandikar tallied five kills and two blocks.

Chase contributed 27 assists, three kills, six digs and one ace. Ryan Kearney added three kills, three blocks and one ace and Tyler Brunnabend had two kills and 16 digs.

Parkland improved to 7-2 overall and 6-1 in the conference.
