New head coach Corpora gets wins in first two games

Tyler Corpora didn’t have to wait long to get his first win as Northwestern’s boys lacrosse head coach. He also didn’t have to wait long for his second.

The Tigers opened the season with a pair of wins and started the season 3-1.

Corpora got his first win in the season opener against Northampton in a 9-8 game. Kendall Wikert opened the season with a four-goal performance and Tyler Kaas and Grayson Christman had two goals in the win.

Wikert, Kaas, and Christman have been the most consistent scorers of the season thus far with each having at least one goal in every game. Kaas has 10 goals and three assists early on, Wikert has nine goals and three assists, and Christman picked up seven goals.

Kaas picked up the second of his three hat tricks this season in a 14-6 win over Pleasant Valley. He also added three assists for Northwestern Lehigh. The Uricchio family had some goals to celebrate as junior Braydon Uricchio scored his first two goals of the season as did Logan Uricchio, a sophomore. Trey Snyder recorded his first varsity goal in the win against the Bears.

Even though it’s early in the season, there are only two undefeated teams in District 11 boys lacrosse and Northwestern ran into one of them recently when they faced Nazareth. The Blue Eagles are off to a 3-0 start, just ahead of Easton (2-0) in the 3A standings.

Nazareth downed Northwestern 14-8.

Braydon Uricchio, Wikert, and Christman each had two goals against Nazareth and Kaas and Snyder both scored one.

On Tuesday the defense was the big story as Northwestern held Liberty to just one goal in an 8-1 win. Senior goalie Dane Kauker recorded eight saves in the game after recording nine each against Pleasant Valley and Nazareth and five in the season opener against Northampton.

Northwestern has outscored their opponents 39-29 in their first four games.

The Tigers are home against Allentown Central Catholic Thursday and then play at Emmaus on Tuesday.
