Lozada sets record in meet against Lehighton
The Salisbury track and field teams came up short against Lehighton in last week’s Colonial League matchup. The Falcon boys team suffered a 98-52 defeat last Thursday, while the girls lost 106-43.
One Falcon athlete made history last week.
Steven Lozada—who won three events against Lehighton—set a new school record in the pole vault with a mark of 14 feet, 11 inches and ranks first in the state in Class 2A in the event. He’s also ranked first in the District 11 Class 2A ranks in the triple jump and second in the long jump, which he placed first in both events against Lehighton.
Jamanni Cruz was the other Falcon multiple-event winner, taking first in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. David Quinones (300-meter hurdles) and Bryan Gonzalez (high jump) also placed first in their respective events for Salisbury.
Leading the girls side were two Falcons who currently sit in the top two in the District 11 Class 2A ranks of their respective events. Emma Yakaitis—the top spot in the 300-meter hurdles—won the event against Lehighton. Annalise Shelly won the high jump event and is ranked second in the district seed placement.
Kaitlyn Neuhs (1600-meter run) and Lydia Fogel (javelin) also won events for Salisbury.
Salisbury also competed in the Southern Lehigh Invitational over the weekend. A number of Falcons placed in the top five of their respective events.
On the boys side, Lozada dominated the afternoon with wins in the pole vault (14-6), triple jump (45-1 1/2) and long jump (22-0 1/2) events. Cruz placed third and fourth in the 200- (23.64 seconds) and 100-meter (11.48) dashes, respectively, while Dominic Natosi took fifth in the 400-meter dash in a time of 54.15 seconds.
Yakaitis placed second in 300-meter hurdles in a time of 50.15 seconds, while Shelly also placed second in the long jump with a mark of 17-2 3/4. Fogel placed fourth in the javelin with a throw of 80-5, while the 3200-meter relay team also finished fourth with a time of 11:49.91.
