The Lehigh Conference of Churches has launched a new donation initiative: the “Everyday Essentials Collection Drive.”
The drive is being held in April into May.
“Bras, underwear and socks are basic necessities that many individuals struggle to afford or access, yet they are items that must be changed daily to maintain health and dignity,” stated a press release from the Conference.
“Thanks to the generous support of our community, we have the opportunity to provide critical assistance to individuals and families who are most in need.
“We are collecting new undergarments of all kinds. Supporters can host a collection drive, donate items individually or contribute through Amazon, with donations delivered directly to us.
“When we receive undergarment donations, they are thoughtfully distributed through our Drop-In Center, where individuals have access to daily 20-minute showers. Along with showers, we provide toiletries and essential items to ensure everyone can care for their personal hygiene comfortably and safely.
“Over the past few months, we’ve spoken directly with our clients, and the most requested items have been bras, underwear and socks. These essentials are often overlooked, yet they are necessities that should be changed daily; many go without due to limited access.
“By hosting this drive, we hope to collect enough undergarments to support individuals in need and help meet this critical daily necessity,” stated the press release.
