Lower Macungie Township to host Community Day May 1

Lower Macungie Township will hold Community Day 4-8:30 p.m. May 1 at the community center.

There will be activities for the whole family including games, inflatables, live music and food trucks. Local township businesses and groups will also have displays.

This year the township will mark America’s 250th anniversary with fireworks from Brookside Country Club.

Lower Macungie Library hours are 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The library will be closed 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 1 to prepare for Community Day and will open 4-8 p.m. for Community Day.

The Teen Advisory Board will meet 4-5:30 p.m. April 16 and May 14.

LML Afternoon Book Club will meet 1-2:30 p.m. April 16 to discuss “A Gentleman in Moscow” by Amor Towles. The book for May 21 is “The Women” by Kristin Hannah. The book club meets at the library.

Get in the Game for youth, teens and adults will be offered 11 a.m. April 17 and 10 a.m. to noon May 28.

Teen Snack & Write for students in grades 6-12 will meet 4-5 p.m. April 20.

Chit Chat & Craft Adult Craft Night will meet 6-7:45 p.m. April 20 to create book page roses and May 12 to create a garden window painting.

There will be a Sensory Movie Matinee for adults with disabilities and their caregivers 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 21 and May 5 and 19.

Teen Lounge for students in grades 6-12 will meet 4 p.m. April 23 to celebrate Earth Day.

Celebrate Library Week with book bingo for grades K-5 6-7 p.m. April 23.

There will be a Book Party! for grades K-5 11 a.m. April 25 with crafts, activities and more.

There will be a matinee showing of “Hamnet” for adults 1 p.m. April 23.

Fun, Friendship, and Fiber Arts (for adults) will meet 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 24 and May 8 and 22. Bring your projects and make friends and share ideas.

Teen Dungeons and Dragons for grades 6-12 will meet 4-5:30 p.m. April 27.

Memory Lane — a program for adults with dementia and their caregivers — will meet 1 p.m. April 27. Candice Leone, memory care program director from Genesis Lehigh Commons, will offer programming that includes crafts, games and music in a safe environment.

Piece of Mind — a program for adults — will meet 1-3 p.m. April 28 and May 19 for board games and puzzles.

There will be Sensory Coloring and Crafting for Adults 11 a.m. to noon April 28.

Free Comic Book Day! for all ages will be noon to 1 p.m. May 2. There will be crafts and activities as well as a superhero.

Craft Café for adults will meet 1 p.m. May 5. Bring your own craft to work on in a relaxed environment. Coffee and tea will be provided.

The Lower Macungie Library Book Club book for 10:30 a.m. to noon May 6 will be “A Happier Life” by Kristy Woodson Harvey. The book club meets virtually.

Made with Love for Mom for grades K-5 will be held 6 p.m. May 7. There will be a story and a craft for mom.

Books and Beyond will meet 6 p.m. May 11 at the library to discuss “The Paris Novel” by Ruth Reichl. The next meeting will be 6 p.m. June 8.

Happy Little Painters for children ages 3 and older will meet 10 a.m. May 12 and 6 p.m. May 18 for painting fun.

There will be a Sensory Game Day for adults with disabilities and their caregivers 11 a.m. to noon May 12.

Sunny Day Storytime for children 2-5 years will meet outdoors 10 a.m. May 13, 20 and 27. In the event of inclement weather, the program will move indoors with limited space.

There will be a movie matinee showing of “My Fair Lady” for adults 10 a.m. May 15.

There will be a Hobby Happy Hour for adults 5-7 p.m. May 18. This new monthly social will offer mocktails, snacks and music while you work on your own bring-along project.

There will be a Build It! Block Party for children ages 2-6 years 10 a.m. May 21.

The Friends of the Lower Macungie Library Spring Book Sale will be held May 7, 8, and 9 in the Lower Macungie Library, 3450 Brookside Road. Preview night for Friends’ members will be 4-7 p.m. May 7. Memberships will be available at the door. The sale is open to the public 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 8 and 9 with the popular bag sale 2-4 p.m. May 9.

Donation collection for the spring book sale will take place 1-4 p.m. April 18 and 25 at the “Friends Shed” in the library parking lot.

Registration for Lower Macungie summer programs is now open. The Summer Playground Program is offered 9 a.m. to noon June 29-Aug. 14 at Church Lane Park, Hills at Lockridge Park, Quarry Park and Wild Cherry Park.

Camp Lower Mac for children ages 6-12 years old is offered 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 15-Aug. 21 at the Lower Macungie Community Center. Registration for both programs can be found at lowermac.com.

Lower Macungie Pool memberships are available online. Swim lesson registration opens April 15. There is a discount on the Family Pool Pass when purchased before May 1.

Habitat Lehigh Valley ReStore will have a Stuff the Truck event at the LMT Community Center to collect unwanted but new and gently used furniture, appliances and building supplies for resale 9 a.m. to noon April 18.

There will be a free document shredding event 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 2 at the Lower Macungie Township municipal building parking lot. There is a limit of four medium sized boxes of sensitive material.

The Lower Macungie Garden Club will hold a plant sale 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 16 at the community center.

The Lower Macungie Township Historical Society will host “Spring Planting at the Log House,” 5047 Hamilton Blvd., 2-4 p.m. May 4. The log house will be open for tours and the kitchen garden will be planted with medicinal and culinary herbs and plants. The museum will be closed.

Lower Macungie Township with Emmaus Rotary Club and Food Coalition will hold a food drive supporting families of the East Penn School District. Food donations can be dropped off through June 26 in the lobby of the Lower Macungie Community Center.

The Lower Macungie Township Senior Citizens will meet noon April 27 at the community center. Hanna Violet will provide musical entertainment. There will be no meetings in May — the next meeting is June 2. New members are welcome; they must be Lower Macungie Township residents over 60 years old.

Lower Lehigh AARP will meet noon May 7 in the lower level of Macungie Memorial Hall at Macungie Memorial Park, 50 N. Poplar St. New members are welcome. For more information, contact Dot at 610-967-3284.

The Alburtis Seniors will meet noon May 20 at Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Quarry Road, Alburtis. There will be a potluck buffet lunch followed by a meeting and bingo. There is a small charge. Bring a covered dish. For more information, call Doris at 610-966-3653.

Lower Macungie Township offers indoor pickleball at the community center gymnasium. Advance registration is required.

Open gym is available at the Lower Macungie Township Community Center. Residents must purchase an annual membership to use the gym.

Lower Macungie Township offers many programs for adults and children.

Adult classes include yoga, Zumba, Pilates, martial arts and tai chi.

Youth classes include cooking, martial arts, golf and tot sports.

Yard waste center hours for April are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Hours for May are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Friday and noon to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Yard waste permits are required for drop-off. The center is located at 5536 Indian Creek Road, Macungie.

Weekly curbside collection of grass clippings takes place the same day as trash collection.

Yard waste collection is every other week on April 27 and May 11 and May 26.
