FHS leads charge
After jumping out to a hot start a year ago, Freedom’s volleyball team has followed suit with another torrid start to the season this spring.
The Patriots sport the area’s best record at 8-0 on the season, sweeping seven of their eight opponents on the year.
The only match that wasn’t a sweep was a March 26 victory over Parkland in four games.
It was one of two marquee victories by the Pates so far this season, as they swept Whitehall last week to stake their claim as the best team in District 11 at this point.
The Pates should keep their win streak going this week with matches against Easton (2-5) and Pocono Mountain East (4-4) on tap.
Liberty (2-3) is trying to find their footing early in the season, but have played a tough opening stretch so far this season.
The Hurricanes three losses have come against Parkland, Whitehall and Freedom and have another tough task this week when they play an undefeated Nazareth (5-0) squad on Thursday. Before that they a winnable date with Pocono Mountain West (1-6) on Tuesday.
Bethlehem Catholic (1-6) has struggled in the early part of the year, getting swept in all their defeats, but registering a win in four games over Lincoln Leadership Academy last week.
The Hawks have a chance this week to make up some ground with three matches on the docket against Allen (2-6) and both Pocono Mountain schools.
