Bethlehem Catholic’s boys tennis team is hanging tough with just enough players and sometimes less as its doubles pairs swept Pleasant Valley on March 30.
Derrick Hartman and Ralston Rowlands defeated Noah Conklin and Logan Krock, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 2; Nico Massa and Kolby Mease defeated Ben Jochen and Josh Careccia, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 3; and Brady Jones and Connor Gillahan defeated Hayden Byrnes and Preston Snyder, 6-3, 1-6, 12-10, at No. 4.
In singles matches, Liam Maloney lost to John Hargrave, 2-6, 3-6 at No. 1, and Kendryk Silva lost to Isaac Klein, 0-6, 1-6.
Becahi was forced to forfeit the No. 3 singles match due to a player shortage, so Coach Dan Arkans moved Hartman from singles to doubles for the day.
With the match tied, Maloney and Hartman teamed up at No. 1 doubles but lost to Hargrave and Klein, 8-3.
On April 1, Liberty hosted Bethlehem Catholic to a 7-0 victory over the Golden Hawks.
Luke D’Angelo defeated Maloney, 6-2, 6-3, and Erik Peterson defeated Silva, 6-1, 6-1.
Liam Bulman won by forfeit when the Hawks were forced to take another forfeit.
In doubles play, Gio Picini and Sean Haas defeated Hartman and Silva, 8-5; Finn Brown and Thomas Horvath defeated Hartman and Mease, 6-1, 6-1; Hajin Chung and Raiden Thakar won against Joey Maigur and Massa, 6-0, 6-0; and Conner Terefinko and Dylan Matz won over Gillahan and Jones, 6-0, 6-0.
Freedom was rained out last week, and the Patriots’ match against Easton is rescheduled for April 9.
