Baseball team gets past Notre Dame
Catasauqua’s baseball team did something recently they hadn’t done since the 2023 season,
The Rough Riders won consecutive games. In 2023, they downed Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg, 7-2, and Northwestern, 9-6, during the third and fourth games of their season.
Catty defeated Palmerton, 6-3, and they followed it with a 7-5 win over Notre Dame. Roughies’ head coach Steve Bradley believed it was the first time a Catty team beat Notre Dame since 2013.
With the consecutive victories, the Roughies evened their mark at 3-3.
Bradley was impressed with Reese Savercool’s performance against Notre Dame. Savercool threw all seven innings, allowing six hits, striking out three and walking two. Luis Collazo had two hits and two RBIs, and Joey Conway and Trever Hartzell each had two hits. The Roughies pounded out 10 hits overall.
“Reese did a fantastic job,” beamed Bradley. “The outfield was stellar and Cody Roth had a solid game at second base with a huge line drive grab in the 6th that took the wind out of Notre Dame’s sails.”
Against Palmerton, Alex Bolmer allowed three hits and struck seven in 6.1 innings. Gavin Hacker pitched the final two innings to close out the victory.
Bradley has credited his seniors for their experience and guidance that has helped match their win total from last year (3-17).
“The team is playing solid baseball right now,” beamed Bradley. “There is good senior leadership guiding the younger players.”
Senior shortstop Reece Lopez already sees a tight team bond.
“As a team, we have been hitting the ball pretty well, and a lot better than last year,” stressed Lopez. “Our pitchers are also pitching very well. We don’t have a guy that can throw gas, but our pitchers are accurate and our defense makes the plays to back them up. We are being more efficient.”
