New jewelry boutique, repair shop opens on Front Street
Catasauqua Borough’s Front Street business area welcomed a newcomer during a March 28 ribbon-cutting ceremony. Al Sham Jewelry and Watch Repair LLC joined the local business landscape at 523 Front St.
Fadi Achkar, of Whitehall, is the owner of the new boutique. The plans are to sell jewelry and provide jewelry and watch repair services. Achkar was surrounded by a group of family and friends to celebrate his newly minted business. Catasauqua Mayor Anthony Alcalde was on hand to welcome the new business and pledged to assist Achkar in anyway he can.
Alcalde did his part as the highest elected official in Catasauqua to help hold the large yellow ribbon before the ceremonial cutting. Achkar used a large scissor to cut the ribbon.
The grand-opening banner, partnered with gold and white balloons, created a celebratory mood. Directly after the ribbon cutting, a bottle of champagne was brought out. Achkar popped the cork which flew high in the air, symbolic of his new business sales taking off. Attendees then filled elegant disposable glasses for a champagne toast for future business success.
After the toast, attendees entered the boutique and shared a spread of food to mark the beginning of the new business venture. There was a clear sense of happiness, friendship and a feeling the business will be a success.
The establishment will offer jewelry and luxury jewelry for sale, jewelry restoration, watch repairs and maintenance. He noted he plans to purchase gold along with silver and coins. Visit the boutique or call 610-573-8189 for information.
The store’s hours are set for 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays. It is closed Sundays.
Other local nearby businesses include a bakery, a unisex salon, Blockers Coffeehouse, a convenience store and more.
That area on Front Street is expected to have an increase of patrons as the Iron Works project, to include a mix of residential and commercial properties, gets underway. It is a hope the entire character of the Front Street strip may develop into an avant-garde area with increased foot and vehicle traffic, stimulating increased business.
Ribbon-cutting ceremonies for new businesses originated in the late 19th century. They symbolize opening a “clear path” for progress, success and welcoming the public. The use of oversize scissors represents breaking barriers and creating new beginnings.
