Macungie man sentenced to state prison term in overdose death

A Macungie man will serve 5 to 15 years in state prison in the overdose death of a woman to whom he sold pills containing what authorities described as a “fatal amount of fentanyl.”

Nathaniel Tilahun, 29, pleaded guilty Feb. 2 to a felony charge of drug delivery resulting in a death, according to a press release from the Office of the Lehigh County District Attorney dated March 6, the day of his sentencing.

Authorities outlined the case as follows:

On Oct. 5, 2022, Alburtis police officers were called to a residence along West Second Street in the borough for an unresponsive person.

A 23-year-old female, identified as Caylin Strong who lived there, was pronounced dead.

The Lehigh County Coroner determined Strong died from fentanyl toxicity.

Her death was ruled accidental.

Police investigation found Strong “received pills sold by Tilahun.”

“Although the pills were purported to be Percocet, the fake pills contained a fatal amount of fentanyl,” according the press release.

Percocet is a prescription pain medication.

Tilahun faces five years probation upon completion of his sentence, according to authorities.
